I am a junior at Central Washington University majoring in both cultural anthropology and print journalism. Since beginning my fellowship at the Civic Engagement Center in Winter of 2006, I have had the opportunity to organize
service programs such as Random Acts of Kindness Week, Campaign Against Cancer, Service-Learning, and Fair Trade Coffee.

This past summer, i was provided the opportunity to join Oxfam America's CHANGE Initiative as one of 50 socially concerned university students from across the nation. As a CHANGE representative of Central Washington University, I attended a conference in Boston to discuss issues of social injustice with other dedicated student leaders . As a united group of student activists, we explored issues of poverty, hunger and oppression, while becoming educated in ways to bring awareness and action to our respective institutions.

This coming fall, I anticipate expanding upon issues of Fair Trade at Central to include additional practices of ethical consumerism. As scholars of higher education and engaged members of our global community, it is our responsibility to be aware of unfair practices going on around us and to use our influence and power as consumers to inspire change and justice. I will also be working to create a regional platform for university students within the Northwest to explore issues of Trade, Poverty, and Ethical Consumerism through critical thinking and civil dialog. I look forward to working with motivated, passionate individuals to better understand the circumstances surrounding social injustice and bring that understanding to others within our local and global communities.
