| Description | Are you an education major? Are you interested in helping children understand the world around them and where they fit into it? This activity is a great way for education majors to gain experience in planning curriculum and motivating the young people they work with, while learning about current human rights issues and social justice.
As a team or as an individual, research existing K-12 lesson plans around the issue of Human Rights. You may ask yourself questions such as: How are 1st graders learning about Human Rights? How are 5th graders learning about Human Rights? How are high school students learning about Human Rights? What can K-12 students do about current or ongoing Human Rights issues? Using this information, develop a 60-minute lesson plan and activity that will allow students at different grade levels to learn about Human Rights. There should also be some kind of "action" activity that would help the students to spread awareness of Human Rights - such as making bookmarks for the local library, or planning a fundraiser for their school to help a current human rights project. The curriculum should be informative, age appropriate, and interactive. You may choose the present your lesson plan to a class, or submit the lesson plan to the Civic Engagement Center to be used by other education majors.
